What is a Holistic Healer?

Holistic healing incorporates traditional complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).

Alternative medicine is any practice which aims to reach the same healing results of traditional, scientific medicine, yet which is unproven, untested and unproved.

It may use unproven or untested techniques such as energy healing, body centering, meditation, intuition, or crystals.

According to Health Canada, holistic counselling is not therapy in the clinical sense of the word, because the intent of the services is not to treat a disease.

The intention of holistic counselling is to facilitate recovery, enhance well-being and strengthen the individual\’s self-awareness.

Medical practitioners have generally regarded holistic counselling as \”alternative medicine,\” because all medicines seek to treat a disease, which modern medicine views in one piece of the entire patient.

By contrast, the service of a holistic counsellor focuses on the entire person.

The healing power of a holistic counsellor is not limited to the healing of physical ailments.

Some holistic counsellors, for example, may provide services to improve the quality of sleep, enhance concentration or help patients organise their thoughts and emotions.

Other holistic counselling techniques focus on improving emotional wellness, helping patients deal with stress and reducing negative thoughts.

These can include reducing drug and alcohol abuse or improving diet and nutrition.
